Vauxhall Insignia’s World Premiere at the BIMS in London.

Vauxhall InsigniaThe British International Motor Show was the venue for the world premiere of the brand new Vauxhall Insignia.

All the new models were there on the large Vauxhall stand with a large dedication to this ground breaking model. Its modern coupe styling is designed to rejuvenate the market after it has become stagnant with re-releases of older models. This fresh new design represents a new way of thinking for Vauxhall asserting their position in the super competitive mid-size market.

Design.

The super sleek aerodynamic design has a drag efficient of just 0.27 which means very little until you compare it to all the other cars in its class which it beats hands down. Vauxhall have spent over 650 hours in the wind tunnel with this car sculpting the perfect shapes to help it glide through the air. The future ecoFlex version designed to reduce CO2 goes even further. The shape does not just offer stream lined aerodynamics but also enhances performance through features such as the front bumper corners, rear spoiler and exterior mirror wing forms. Bringing the sexy coupe style to a mid size saloon car is a bold feat of engineering, successfully creating the space for five spacious seats and a large boots whilst retaining the coupe style.

Powertrain.

Vauxhall InsigniaThe Insignia comes with five fantastic engines offering great versatility across the range. They have three petrol engines and two new 2.0 litre turbo diesel engines, the petrol engines ranging from 140 – 260 hp and diesels from 130 – 160 hp. All are designed to be efficient and eco-friendly whilst still producing enough power to stand out against other cars of its size.

Chassis.

Using MacPherson strut front suspension and four-link rear layout the suspension is designed perfectly for this vehicle. The steering and suspension are attached to a sub frame which reduces noise and vibrations to the drivers cab. Using FlexRided system the driver can control the suspension to their personal driving style. A choice of Standard, Tour and Sport are available all controlled by the Driving Mode Control which overseas and executes the actions and reacts to changes in driving style and emergency situations.

Adaptive 4×4.

Future models will have the availability of adaptive 4×4 system designed to optimise driving stability and handling. The Transfer Torque Device distributes power to different wheels depending on driving conditions and demands.

Innovation.

Vauxhall InsigniaThe Insignia features some of the most useful new technology on display at the motor show. Vauxhall have refined their already impressive adaptive front lighting to help keep your way lit at all time. They have also added a front camera system which tracks the road ahead at 30 frames a second filtering the important information for the drivers assistance. It will keep an eye on road lanes for you and display a warning if you veer out of line and will spot road signs such as ‘speed limits’ and ‘no passing signs’ to keep you informed of current information. The new seats are also extremely comfortable and make driving easier hence their award from an independent German ergonomics group.

The Vauxhall Insignia was one of the main highlights of the motor show this year paving the way for reasonably priced, stylish mid-sized cars. Its aerodynamic, coupe style and bold intersecting lines raise the bar for everyday affordable vehicles. The hype was justified and deserving of the effort Vauxhall have put into its development.

New Vauxhall Corsa now available from Nationwide

Vauxhall CorsaThe new generation Vauxhall Corsa is scheduled to make its international debut at the British International Motor Show in July, reflecting the importance of the UK market for the model. The all-new supermini is larger than the current model and has more overtly sports styling, picking up styling themes from the latest Astra and Vectra.

The larger dimensions translate into more cabin space, with improved leg and shoulder room. ~Vauxhall (and, in Europe, Opel) promises better interior finish and quality.

Dynamically, the new Corsa will benefit from an understeer control system and is promoted as the first car in its class to offer progressive sports power steering, which is light in town driving, but which weights up with more feedback to the driver at higher speeds. The sporting theme will extend to the availability on certain models of 17-inch alloys and a lowered chassis.

At launch three petrol (1.0, 1.2 and 1.4) and two diesel (1.3 and new 125hp 1.7) engines will ~be offered. Prices and specifications will be announced nearer the public sale launch later this year.
